For the Children at Marston Green Infant Academy, Computers are now part of everyday life. For most of us, technology is essential to our lives, at home and at work and if current trends are to continue then computers and computing will become an ever more important part of the lives of the children we teach.

 

Computing underpins today’s modern lifestyle it is essential that all pupils gain the confidence and ability that they need in this subject to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world. The use of Computing enhances and extends children’s learning across the whole curriculum whilst developing motivation and social skills.

 

 

Aims and Purposes

 

The school’s aims are to:

 

  • Motivate and inspire pupils and raise standards across the curriculum.
  • Offer children a broad, balanced, challenging and enjoyable curriculum that is relevant to them.
  • Meet the requirements of the National Curriculum programme of study.
  • Develop specific Computing skills in using hardware and software as set down in the school’s scheme of work.
  • Allow children to appreciate the relevance of Computing in our society and that they see it as an essential tool for learning, communication, finding information and for controlling and understanding their environment.
  • Explore their attitudes towards Computing, its value for themselves, others and society, and their awareness of its advantages and limitations.
  • To ensure that children develop the skills to make safe choices when using Computing.

 

The National Curriculum for Computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

 

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles of computer science, including logic, algorithms
  • Data representation, and communication
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing
  • Computer programs in order to solve such problems
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of computers
