Welcome to Year 1
Our topics are:
The Great Outdoors
Stories by Julia Donaldson form a wonderful transition for the children as they move into year 1. Also, watch out for amazing artwork and thoughts about how we should all look after our wonderful earth.
Food and Festivals
We will think about lots of festivals and celebrations that take place at this time of year and learn about Guy Fawkes. In Science we also think about how the Season is changing from Autumn to Winter.
Animals and Adventures
Our Science lessons help us identify and classify animals and in English we complete a unit on animal poetry. Geography takes us into the town and country -- with some mice from a story to help us!
The Circle of Life
We explore Seasons in Science, Relationships in PSHE and planting in our school garden, recognising cycles in our lives. Geography sees us expand our knowledge to the wider world and the equator.
Step Back in Time
Children explore 1940's Britain - How have our homes, shops, toys and games and music changed? We also make our own sandwich in D&T and have fun at a 1940's inspired party.
Sea and Coast
As we head to the Summer break, we explore stories set on the coast and make our very own lighthouse. This term also sees us complete a trip out from school and complete transition work on a 'pirate' theme with year 2.
Please explore 'curriculum' on our website to find further information about individual subjects and topic overviews.
Always remember to ask a member of the year 1 team, if you are unsure about something - we are very happy to help.
