Phonics

Review phonemes: sh, ch (the YouTube links below may help)

Tricky words: we, her, me. Can you recognise them? Spell? Put into a sentence?

Recap: sh and ch.

Children to write the digraphs down – encourage cursive font.
Children to listen to you saying the following words aloud focusing on which digraph they can hear: if they hear ‘sh’ then they put their hands on their head, if they hear ‘ch’ they cross their arms. Words:

ship,     shop,     push,     rush,

shell,    chop,     chin,      chip.

Read the sentence:

The shop sells lots of chips.

Mini Maths (rhyme time)
Share the Youtube rhyme below with your child. Watch it together and then watch it again and see if you can join in.

Outdoor play

Bird feeders
Think about where we might find birds in our garden or on a walk outdoors. Have a go at using some natural resources to make a bird-feeder. See link attached for one way of making them.
Then hang your feeder up and keep checking back to see if any birds appear.

*This will be really useful for next week’s bird watching activity.*

Signs of change

This week we are looking at signs of change.  Ask your child what they think this means and then explain to them that signs of change are about the things that we do or see before changes happen.
Ask your child to think about changes within themselves, thinking back over the past year, what has changed? (They have grown, lost teeth, become better at something etc...)
Here are some questions you could ask your child to develop their understanding:
Did you see these changes happening?
How do we know that things are changing?
What are big changes and what are little changes?
Read about John the Baptist (See attached story).  Discuss the story and explain that he came from a dry desert to tell people an important message.

Here are some questions you can ask about the story:
Who did John tell people about?
What changes did he say everyone must make?
Discuss how the signs of Jesus’ coming gave hope to many people.  Discuss how some changes make people happy but others do not – can the children think of changes that people might not be happy about?

Invite your child to join in with the prayer of the week.
Prayer of the Week:
Dear God,
Help us to understand the signs of change.  We know that change can be good but sometimes change can be difficult.  Help us to accept that change is part of life.
Amen
