Carpet Sessions - week 01/03/21

This week we shall be taking part in World Book Day (Thursday 4th March 2021).  We would love to see you dressed as your favourite book character so please send us a photograph on Seesaw.

Talk for Writing

We shall be starting our new story of 'The Three Little Pigs'.  A copy of the model text and story map will be sent to you via Seesaw along with a video of one of the teachers telling the story.

Talk about what you like/dislike about this story.

Identify some of the repetitive phrases in the story – “Little pig, little pig, let me come in” and “No, no, no, not by the hair on my chinny chinny chin I will not let you in”.  Practise saying the phrases.  Can you change your voice to sound like the wolf/pig?

Maths - Numicon

We shall be continuing getting to know the Numicon Shapes in school and talking about the colour, size, pattern, position and number.

At home you can try a different version of the activity you had last week, using your cut out Shapes play the 'Castle' matching game.

Phonics

Aspect 4 Rhythm & Rhyme

Playing with words

Have a go at clapping out the syllables for your name, e.g. Alex would have two syllables (Al-ex), Georgina would have three syllables (Georg-in-a).  How many syllables do you have?  How about your family members?

Use the story book characters pdf (see below).  Ask a grown-up to clap the syllables for each character whilst you listen carefully and work out which character it is.

R.E

Continuing with Easter/Spring...

First, play the PowerPoint game below and see if you can match the mother to the baby animals.

Next, listen to the story Wake up its Spring by Lisa Campbell Ernst (story on Youtube, see link below).

After, focus on the idea that Spring is a season that is all about new life and growth.

Question: What are the different signs of Spring?

Topmarks have interactive online games available such as 'life cycle of a butterfly' or 'life cycle of a frog' (see links below).  Can you complete the life cycles yourself?

PSED/Jigsaw

We shall be thinking about what it is like to feel 'lonely' and how it makes your heart feel.  We shall be talking about how we can make things better and how we can make friends with others.  We shall be discussing how we can be a good friend and what we should do if ever we feel lonely or sad.
